BIAPWS is pleased to confirm that we will be hosting the IAPWS 2026 Annual Meeting in Bristol, UK — the first time this flagship event has been held in Bristol. Our dedicated event website is now live with provisional information, and we will be adding detail in the coming months.
IAPWS (the International Association for the Properties of Water and Steam) is one of the premier annual gatherings for technical exchange on water, steam and aqueous systems — spanning fundamental thermophysical properties through to practical applications in areas such as power-cycle chemistry, plant operation, and water treatment technologies. The annual meeting brings together international specialists from industry, academia and research to share learning, debate emerging issues, and contribute to the working-group outputs that many organisations rely on.
Dates and location:
Main event (provisional): Monday 29 June to Friday 03 July 2026
Location: Bristol, UK (venue information and travel guidance will be expanded on the event website)
What to expect:
The week is traditionally built around IAPWS working groups, with a dedicated symposium day designed for broader sharing and discussion. In Bristol, we are planning:
IAPWS Working Group sessions (Monday, Tuesday and Thursday). Working-group meetings form the backbone of IAPWS, with active technical discussions and collaboration across a range of specialist topics.
BIAPWS 2026 Symposium (Wednesday). A full-day symposium as an integral part of the week, offering a chance to hear from international practitioners and to share experiences relevant to power-cycle chemistry and associated technologies.
Technical visit to Hinkley Point C (Tuesday afternoon). A unique opportunity to see a major UK project and discuss relevant technical themes in context.
Conference banquet aboard SS Great Britain (Wednesday evening). A memorable setting onboard one of Bristol’s most iconic engineering landmarks — with a special guest appearance by “Mr Brunel” himself.
How to get involved:
Over the coming months we will update the website with additional information. Current plans include:
Ticket booking: expected to go live towards the end of January (date to be confirmed on the website).
Provisional programme: planned for January.
Call for speakers (BIAPWS Symposium): if you are interested in presenting, please get in touch. We aim for a balance of UK and international speakers, with an international perspective on power-cycle chemistry and associated challenges.
Guidance on “how IAPWS works”: further information on the working-group format will be published in February, including practical guidance on how attendees can contribute (whatever their level of involvement).
